The correct use of a cutting disc has a huge impact on the life of the disc, heat input into the material and speed of work. Read all about it in our white paper.
In every workshop there is an angle grinder with a cutting disc. Just grind off a piece of steel or cut a pipe, it happens several times a day. Perhaps the cut-off wheel is the most commonly used tool. Because the cutting disc is used so often, it is important to continue to pay attention to its correct use. From the point of view of working safely, the presence and position of the protective cover is important. The protective cover is often seen as a hindrance, it takes away the correct view of the workpiece. But with the correct position of the protective cap, this accessory is a very fine tool! It dissipates the sparks that are released when the person is cut, which gives much more peace and safety.
The power of the machine affects both the speed of operation and the life of the disc.

DownloadDo you work with a pushing or pulling motion? This in turn affects the heat that is introduced and thus the discolouration of the metal. The so-called commuting, moving back and forth with the machine, is the best way to bring in as little heat as possible.
For thicker sheet material it is better to use a 1.6 mm thick cut-off wheel. When cutting, the disc clamps between the metal to do its job. A thin cutting disc contains less abrasive grit than a thick disc and is therefore more likely to dust. A thicker grinding wheel contains more grains on the side, so it continues to cut.
