Together towards the best finish.

Light deburring and removal of weld discolouration with a Bristle Disc

Nowadays, a good weld is best left visible. It gives a tough industrial look and that is totally of this time. However, the weld discolouration can be disfiguring and must be removed. And preferably without damaging the basic material.

Bristle is a special product group within the Scotch Brite range of 3M. It consists of moulded plastic bristles which contain sanding grains. The flexibility in combination with sharp sanding grains including the Cubitron grain for a unique product.

A Bristle Disc is a safe alternative to a wire brush and also gives a very nice finish without affecting the base material.

Although it's not the intention to put your hand in a spinning bristle brush, it can't do any harm in terms of safety. Where you might find the metal bristles in your trouser legs at night and your legs full of red dots because of the flying hairs, a bristle disc is completely safe.

A second advantage is that a bristle disc by its extreme flexibility can get in hard to reach places, in corners, holes, contours etc. Also because of the smallest version of 19mm diameter you can work in very small spaces.

A bristle disc is aggressive enough to deburr as well.

You wouldn't know it, but these plastic bristles can actually deburr. Of course they are not suitable for heavy machining but removing light burrs, finishing TIG welds, it is no problem for the Bristle Disc. Depending on the application, choose a grit size from 24 to 1 Mu.

Besides the coarseness of the grain, the position of the bristles also determines the aggressiveness of the brush. There are three types:

  • Angled, where the bristles are placed at an angle to the carrier. Ideal for aggressive cleaning and deburring
  • Curved, where the hairs are bent. This is the most flexible version and the least aggressive. It adapts to all surfaces.
  • Straight: the bristles are at right angles to the carrier. This is a robust version and most suitable for heavy loads.
Tip: The RPM indicated on the disc is the maximum RPM for safe use. For best results and longest life of the disc we recommend a speed of about 1/3.

Bristle Discs are available as discs, brushes or bowl brushes and have different clamping possibilities. Go to our webshop to order the product of your choice.
