When 3M introduced CubitronII in 2009, it revolutionized the sanding and grinding market. For twelve years (!) the competition tried to match this technology and performance, but it proved incredibly difficult to achieve and then mass produce. Now 3M has succeeded in improving their top product: 33% faster operation and 31% more material removal. The 3M55073 has been our best-selling product to date. And still this fiber wheel will remain the preferred choice of many a steel grinder. But now we are adding the 3M 982CX Pro. In our experience, this fiber wheel does an excellent job on the softer steels (ST37/FE360/S235). The 982CX Pro is only available in grit 36 and in different diameters.

3M places the grains on the carrier in a new way which prevents grains from disappearing from the carrier prematurely. Also, the fracture lines have been optimized which ensures that the pellet cuts even faster and longer.

Price CubitronII fiber discs

We do hear that 3M CubitronII discs are expensive. But actually, the purchase price of a grinding disc is of minor importance. We always say: don't look at what a disc costs, look at what it delivers. And that is a productivity improvement of over 30% compared to the old 982C. It will remain available for the time being, by the way.

The 3M 982CX Pro is only available in grit 36 + and immediately recognizable by the new colour: PAIR!

Support disc for CubitronII fiber discs

As with any CubitronII fiber disc, the backing pad is also very important for the 982CX Pro. Always use the original red backing pad. This is a hard pad that allows you to apply enough pressure and work nice and flat. The ridges on the pad make you work with even more pressure, which improves the performance of these fiber discs even more.

Angle grinder for CubitronII fiber discs

Not only the backing pad is important for optimal performance, the Wattage of the machine is also important. Use an angle grinder with plenty of power, at least 1700W. For heavy chipping, we recommend the 1900W electric angle grinder from 3M. Also available with variable speed. Protection of the motor through a dust cover is also important, because the CubitronII discs produce mainly steel chips and much less dust. This can be detrimental to your machine. With a protective cap for the motor this problem can be remedied.
