Cubitron 3 deburring, cut-off and Cut&Grind discs is the logical sequel to the legendary Cubitron2

The improved version of Cubitron 2 features a new geometry, optimal breakout and more precise positioning on the carrier. This ensures even better cutting performance and longer life.

3M identifies trends in the manufacturing industry that they are responding to with the new Cubitron 3. Think of higher (labor) costs, focus on healthy work environment and increasing automation. Add to that the labor shortage and the need to speed up the grinding process is clear.

Expansion of the current Cubitron 2 product range

Cubitron 3 grinding wheels

The range of deburring wheels is expanded to include wheels specifically designed for grooving. Available in 125mm, 150mm, and 180mm. All in 7mm thickness.

Cubitron 3 Cut & Grind discs - Combi discs

The Cut & Grind discs are specially designed to also be used on the cutting edge. It is a combination of deburring and cut-off wheel. The standard thickness of this disc was 4.2 mm. Now all diameters also include the 3.2 mm thickness.

Cubitron 3 Cut-off wheels

Additional discs have also been added to the cut-off wheels. The most important are the 0.8mm cut-off wheel in 115 and 125mm. And the 1.3mm cutting disc in 125mm.

3M Cubitron 3 new product introductions

The timeline of new products is as follows:

• September 2023: introduction of deburring wheels, cut-off wheels, combination wheels and sanding belts. Time to test!
• October 2023: First delivery of Cubitron 3 products
• by the end of 2023, bonded disks will no longer be available in CubitronII quality.
• Q1 of 2024: introduction of fiber discs and lamellar discs

3M Cubitron 3 is a symbol of 3M's ever-present innovativeness. They will never sit back. An enormous amount of effort is put into development and improvement. To make the world a better and easier place but also to stay ahead of the competition. They have succeeded once again with the Cubitron 3 abrasive grain. A new geometry and even more precise placement of the grain in the disc ensure even better cutting performance and longer life. In short, the change boils down to this:

The bonded hard discs (deburring, cut-off and combination discs) use a familiar PSG CubitronII grain. However, the resin has been improved so that fewer grains are lost prematurely.

For the flexible products such as sanding belts and fiber discs, the grain has been modified, there is a small concave in the sides. This ensures an even sharper point and optimal breakout of the grain.especially looked at the bond on the backing/backing. This has been improved so that the life of the abrasive material is much longer. Grains are lost much less prematurely because they adhere better to the backing.

The history of Cubitron

We're writing 2016. With much tam-tam, 3M introduces a revolutionary innovation with the updated CubitronII. This precisely shaped triangular grain should turn the grinding world on its head and change it permanently. However, skepticism in the market (and also with us, fair is fair) was high. That price...who is going to pay that much for a deburring wheel! The start was difficult. But Metaaltechniek wouldn't be Metaaltechniek if we didn't curiously investigate. Because in the end, the purchase price of a disc is not very important. It's not about what it costs, it's about what it produces. And in the case of CubitronII, that was a lot. A lot. That the acceptance of CubitronII in the Netherlands is remarkably high compared to our surrounding countries is partly due to Metaaltechniek 's conviction that this product is going to make the difference.

From deburring wheel to CubitronII fiber wheel

What is noticeable is that especially in the Netherlands many companies have switched from working with a deflashing wheel to working with a fiber wheel. The main reason for this is that the CubitronII fiber wheel has a much higher removal rate. In addition, you work with a fiber wheel with less vibration and less noise. In addition, the purchase price of a fiber wheel is lower than that of a reinforced grinding wheel.
