Scotch Brite sanding belts from 3M are available in all common sizes. Choose the right belt for your application!
Precisely this variety of possibilities requires the necessary knowledge of material and processing in order to achieve optimal results.
What all Scotch Brite belts have in common is their construction: a three-dimensional web containing an abrasive grain. The open web prevents adhesion of dirt and grit and clogging of the abrasive. It also ensures less heat input into the material to be processed, resulting in less discoloration and deformation. The construction of Scotch Brite ensures an even reproducible finish with a beautiful end result.
When to use which Scotch Brite sanding belt
The choice of tire type depends on a number of factors:
- The material to be processed.
- The desired finish
- The speed at which work can be done
- The machine being worked with
General tip for working with Scotch Brite:
Aluminum oxide cuts softer but lasts longer than silicon carbide. It is ideal when a soft scratch is desirable, such as on softer metals or when the formation of grooves and erosion of metal are the main concern. For a coarser, more aggressive cut, silicon carbide is a good choice. Finer grits offer a finer finish, while a medium or high grit provides a coarser finish.
Scotch Brite SC-BS:
- Suitable for all metals
- Aggressive cutting action without grooves; removes surface irregularities such as grinding patterns, roller edges and other anomalies
- Available in many different sizes for intensive deburring and finishing
- Reinforced back and non-woven open web structure for flexibility in fine finish of contours and edges
- Suitable for backstand and hand tools, up to 25m per second
- Coarse: Coarse, Medium coarse, Super fine, Very fine (identified by color: Blue, Brown, Gray, Chestnut brown)
- Abrasive mineral: Aluminum oxide, silicon carbide

- Ideal for low-stretch applications with a durable polyester linen fabric backing
- Available in a wide variety of minerals, sizes and belt types for different applications.
- Aluminum oxide medium (A MED), aluminum oxide very fine (A VFN), aluminum oxide coarse (A CRS), silicon carbide medium (S MED), silicon carbide superfine (S SFN) and silicon carbide very fine (S VFN)
- Application: cleaning, finishing and light deburring

Scotch Brite SC-BF
- Suitable for machining many metals
- Film backing for flexibility and reduced friction
- Machining with contact plates or in low-friction applications.
- Application: cleaning, finishing, blending and deburring, without leaving grooves or deep scratches.
- For the first step in finishing applications,
- Coarse, Medium, Very fine, (Coarse, Medium, Very fine)
