In the wood industry, the idea arose to use sanding belts to sand large boards. Previously, wide belts were used, but they had their limitations. This is due to the width, but also because markings appear very quickly when narrow parts have been under the wide belt. Also variations in thickness of the product often give problems in a wide belt sander, they are not made for that. The long belt machine provides the solution!
Later, the idea of the long belt machine was also adopted in the stainless steel industry. Especially to apply a nice grinding structure on sheet metal parts, but certainly also for stainless steel assemblies, this machine is used with great ease. Easy operation, consistent finish and super tight work are the motives for considering such a machine.

Most commonly used sanding belts on a long belt machine
There are several standard sizes very common in the industry, both metal, and wood industries. Well-known brands for long belt machines in the metal industry are Kuhlmeyer, Peitzmeier and VG. In the wood industry we mainly see brands such as Heesemann, Holzmann, Holzkraft and Johannsen although these machines are also seen in the metal industry.
